Welcome to the "Golf Coast"

If you’ve been to or heard of the Gold Coast, you will know that it is famous for the sea of golf courses that lie South East of Queensland, Australia.  

It’s often referred to as the “Golf Coast” as it presents a broad selection of 35 premium registered courses to choose from. Many of them are designed by ex-players or golf experts.  

Champion tournaments and events like PGA are hosted at many of the courses – making the Gold Coast a hub for all things Golf. Events welcome professional players and celebrity guests to see world-class golf played on the manicured greens.  

The Gold Coast Public Golf Courses

Gold Coast Golf Courses are known around the world and are a huge drawing card for local and international players. Every skill level is welcomed, making it a dream destination from new players to the most experienced. 

The golf courses are well designed, incorporating the natural terrain. Complexities, like water and bunkers, are strategically positioned to enhance your experience and give you the challenge you came there for. 

This world-class tourist spot offers various types of championship golf courses and clubs. Some, like Burleigh Golf Club and Sanctuary Cover, are private and exclusive to club members only. And others, like Links Hope Island Golf Club, Parkwood International Golf Course and The Glades, are a few of many that are open for the public to experience. 

Most courses are 18 holes. But, there are a few that are 9 holes, which are perfect if you only have two hours to spare. The courses are well priced and if you don’t have clubs or leave them at home, many public golf courses offer sets for hire. 

The club houses are also great for social gatherings so you can enjoy a meal and drinks with your golf buddies after getting your game on.  

From mini-golf to night golf, you’re also bound to find a course to fit the needs of every member of the family.   

Gold Coast Golf Courses List

Palm Meadows

Address: Palm Meadows Dr, Carrara QLD 4211

Palm Meadows opened in 1987 and was the first golf resort course on the Gold Coast. The course was designed by professional golfer Graham Marsh. Marsh created a challenging 350-hectare par 72 course that measures 6319 metres off the championship tees. 

It has 82 sand bunkers and 14 holes that feature water. The first hole is known for being one of the world’s most challenging opening holes, but their signature hole is the 523-metre par 5 18th. It was rated 18th out of 500 of the world’s top golf holes by US Golf Digest. 

With both opening and closing holes rated among the best in Australia, Palm Meadows has created somewhat of a legacy providing remarkable golfing experiences and attracting high profile golf tournaments. 

Links Hope Island

Address: Springfield Dr, Hope Island QLD 4212

Links Hope Island opened in March 1993 and is the centrepiece of the Hope Island Resort. It was designed by British Open Champion, Peter Thomson and partner Mike Wolveridge. It is also host to the 1997 Johnnie Walker Classic that welcomed players like the legendary Ernie Els. 

The layout is set in a 360 ha residential resort and the par 71 course measures roughly 6,300 metres off the championship tees after the rearrangement of hole 9 and Links driving range.  

You’ll need to do some strategic thinking around the 115 challenging pot style bunkers and hazards that are in play. 

Ever since the golf course opened, it has regularly ranked in Australia’s top ten resort courses. It is rated as “one of the best championship links courses you’ll play” by Australian golfing legend, Peter Senior. 

RACV Royal Pines Resort

Address: Ross St, Benowa QLD 4217

This 27-hole course was first opened in 1990 and was originally designed by architect Tomojiro Maruyama. However, in 2004, the resort brought in Graham Marsh to redesign the course, which opened for play in 2004. While the design changed considerably, you can still see elements of the original course.  

In 2008, Royal Pines was purchased by Royal Automobile Club of Victoria and five years later, it hosted the first of multiple Australian PGA Championships. To meet tournament standards, Marsh was asked to add more character to the course. 

The new championship layout, opened in 2015, now features more water in play, some bunkers and more contouring on the greens. 

With three 18-hole, par-72 combination layouts including a Championship course, it is perfect for golfers looking for different playing experiences.   

The Glades

Address: 1 Glades Dr, Robina QLD 4226

The Glades golf course was designed by Greg Norman and is known to be one of his greatest designs yet. The layout is aggressive, which provides a competitive course for golfers across the board. 

It is the premier golf course with greens unique to any other golf course. Differentiating itself with a new type of “Creeping Bentgrass”, the course offers an authentic putting surface. 

The Glades is a par 72, 7,264-metre championship course that spans 65 hectares of land with a total of 94 bunkers.  

The architect, Norman, also thoughtfully retained 9 hectares of wetland area to create a natural wildlife sanctuary that is situated within the course. 

Burleigh Golf Club

Address: 114 Albion Ave, Miami QLD 4220

In the hub of Miami lies a traditional golf club with a par-71 course containing an 18-hole layout. These 18 holes of championship golfing feature a Woodland Forest front nine and a Sandbelt Heath back nine. This offers the average club golfer a challenging and different golfing experience. 

It combines tree-lined winding fairways and greens that are naturally landscaped. The course is playable in superb condition year-round thanks to the recycled water supply and use of state-of-the-art course machinery and turf management techniques. 

Sanctuary Cove

Address: The Pkwy, Hope Island QLD 4212

The Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club offers access to two superb courses. Members can enjoy a golfing experience at The Pines golf course, while non-members can play at The Palms golf course. These courses both provide a world-class private golfing experience. 

The Pines golf course is Australia’s only Arnold Palmer signature course. Across 101 hectares, the course features a corridor approach to several holes. 

Fourteen of the holes are contoured around six man-made lakes and it also holds one of the world’s greatest finishing holes so accuracy off the tee is a must.  The Palms is a championship course with a length of 5904 metres off the championship tees. Tee placements have been designed for players to think strategically and get creative so that the course remains a challenge.  

The Palms golf course ranked in the top 50 of Australian Golf Digests and the top 100 of Golf Australia’s recent Golf Course rankings. 

Palmer Golf Club

Address: Ron Penhaligon Way, Robina QLD 4226

Established in 1990, Palmer Gold Coast is a 6078-meter course on 65 hectares of land. It is an 18 hole, par 71 championship golf course (Australian Course Rating of 72) and was designed by the Marsh/Watson team. 

The course is consistently ranked in the top 30 resort courses in the country and it is evident that Palmer has a reputation as one of the best resort courses in Queensland. 

The rolling fairways, trimmed greens, and towering trees are beautiful and blend harmoniously with the surrounding resort. A natural water-course featuring lakes, ponds, creeks and native wildlife completes the exclusive golf course experience. 

Surfers Paradise Golf Club

Address: 1 Fairway Dr, Clear Island Waters QLD 4226

The diverse layout of Surfers Paradise was designed by Warwick Thomas and English-born Ken Eglit. It is in the heart of the Gold Coast and offers golfers a well-maintained course that has water hazards strategically placed for a good golf challenge. 

Surfers Paradise Golf Club 18-hole championship course is for members and golf-link players as well as social golf. With a par 71 and an Australian Course Rating of 71, the course provides a fantastic golfing experience.   

Known as the ‘friendliest golf club on the Coast’, Surfers Paradise Golf Club hosts “The Surfers Paradise Men’s Open Championship” as well as the “The South Pacific Ladies Open Classic”. 

Arundel Hills Country Club

Opened in 1992, Arundel Hills golf course has beautiful, manicured fairways that go as far as the eye can see. Designed by Fred Bolton, this 18 hole par 72 championship golf course is 6,300m in length, has an exceptional layout and is quite challenging. 

Arundel Hills has a signature hole – the 16th. From the tree-lined tee the 426 meters, par 4 16th hole requires a precise drive with a testing 2nd shot over water. This challenging 16th hole is one of the greatest par 4’s in golf. 

Even the great Australian champion, Norman Von Nida, pronounced the course as the best in Australia, describing it as, well, perfect. 

Tallebudgera Golf Club

Address: 495 Guineas Creek Rd, Tallebudgera QLD 4228

Built in 1989, the golf club has been open since 1990. Tallebudgera Golf Club offers an 18 hole course located in the scenic rural surroundings of the Tallebudgera Valley. 

​The course and par 67 layout border the Tallebudgera Creek and covers a distance of 4,442 metres for men with a slope rating of 98, and 4,346 metres for ladies with a slope rating of 108. 

The course is open daily from sunrise to sunset with frequent competitions. All skill levels of players are welcomed, and first-timers are encouraged. 

Parkwood International

The Parkwood course is naturally beautiful with rolling fairways that meander through the bushland along with a sequence of serene lakes and ponds. 

Parkwood Golf Course provides members with an unspoiled, par 71 championship layout suitable for players of all skill levels. 

The golf course consists of 18 holes with greens and fairways set across the 6,043-metre course. This golf course keeps your swing in check and offers the complete golfers experience. 

Players can easily navigate through the course either by walking or enjoying a drive in a golf cart. 

Southport Golf Club

Southport Golf Club was registered on April 14 1937 and operated a nine-hole course. Today, Southport Golf Club has beautifully manicured turf grass fairways and the greens on the course are 328 couch grass and roll consistently between 9-10 ft. 

There’s a moderate amount of ripple and tree-lined fairways, ponds and lakes, making this course nothing short of premium.  

Southport Golf Club is an easy walking course. The course starts with a practical par 5 and most golfers comfortably move through the first nine holes. 

The back nine is where it all happens. Games are won or lost here with an “amen” corner commencing with the par 3, 14th hole. The back nine has been completely remodelled over the past 15 years. 

Talley Valley Golf Club

Tally Valley is historic and has an iconic windmill at its entrance. The golf club offers a 9-hole, 18 tee course with a landscape that is diverse, making the course a challenge for the pros. 

The golf course is situated in Tallebudgera Valley and provides picturesque views while playing. It is also known for its wildlife. It’s not surprising for players to see plenty of animals like a Koala in the tree or a kangaroo in the bunker. 

Talley Valley also offers golf club, buggy and electric cart hire should require any of these when you visit. 

Carrara Gardens Night Golf

Carrara Gardens Night Golf experience offers something new to players. 9 Holes under lights is truly something different if you’re looking for a new experience or just to change things up a bit. This is exactly what you need. 

You could even get the Night Golf and Driving Range combo where you warm up in the range and then hit the course. 

There’s no excuse not to play because it’s open every day and you can play a round of golf in less than two hours. It’s also perfect for the whole family with some grounds made for beginners.  

Lakeside Golf Club

Address: 433 Brisbane Rd, Coombabah QLD 4216

This course is a hidden gem and is popular with golfers across the board. Lakeside Golf Club is a 9-hole course that consists of 8 par 3’s, and 1 par 4. The course is narrow and complex with plenty of trees and bunkers to make it a challenge. 

It is par 28 in total and the total distance is 1,428m. 

The course is an easy walk with a round trip complete within three kilometres. With only 9 holes, the estimated finishing time is 1.5 hours.  

Lakeside is tight, so don’t be deceived by the lack of par 4 and 5s as the track is challenging with plenty of trees and bunkers. 

Helensvale Golf Club

Helensvale Golf Course is an 18 hole public course that welcomes all skill levels. The course is par 70 and runs a length of 5,249 metres. 

Water holes have strategically been placed on the course to test your accuracy throughout the game. 

The course is stimulating and challenging and lies only 15 minutes from the heart of the Gold Coast. The Helensvale Golf Course is an enjoyable course for everyone. 

Tallai Country Golf Club

Tallai Country Golf Club is one of  the best hidden gems of the Gold Coast hinterland. This old school golf club offers a beautiful quaint 9-hole golf course, which is all you need sometimes. 

This is a family-owned business that prides itself on quality service. It is hidden away in Tallai and holds 9 of the toughest holes on the Gold Coast. 

Golfing enthusiasts will love discovering this 9-hole public golf course with difficult freeways and greens. The course is hilly so if you’re not up to the exercise then taking the cart would be a good option for you. 

Meadow Park Golf Club

Address: 271 Tallebudgera Connection Rd, Tallebudgera QLD 4228

The course suits everyone’s game and welcomes all golfers from juniors to seniors and social competition players. Basically, if you can swing a club, then Meadow Park Golf Club is for you. 

Expect to see spectacular mountain views at 4 of the 9 holes. It is a 61 par course offering 9 holes with 18 tees with both a long and short game. 

The course is flat and extremely well maintained with Bermuda greens that run true all year round. The manicured course provides a golfer’s dream for all age groups. 

Emerald Lakes

Address: 3 Alabaster Dr, Carrara QLD 4211

Emerald lakes have generous greens and wide fairways, making it suitable for every golfer no matter what their skill level is. 

Graham Marsh designed this 18-hole par 72 championship golf course. So, the golfing experience is premium. 

The seventeenth is the longest par 3 in the course and challenges a tough finish from any golfer. This hole requires a long iron or wood to reach the rolling green that is supported by two bunkers. 

Boomerang Farm

Address: 55 Johns Rd, Mudgeeraba QLD 4213

The Boomerang Farm is a beautiful course that winds along the banks of the Mudgeeraba creek. Enjoy a round of golf and test your swing amongst lush tropical surrounds and majestic views. 

Spread over almost 20 hectares, the course has 9 holes (18 different tees) with the longest being a 502-metre par 5. Walk the course and enjoy the scenery or hire motorised buggies if you want to take it easy.  

The beautiful historic farm buildings, dams and lush vegetation makes the course as beautiful as it is challenging. 

Brookwater Golf Club

The impressive Brookwater golf course design meanders up and down across the terrain. It includes two nine-hole loops, with the par 5 13th hole. This provides the longest drive on the course at a substantial 550 metres. 

Brookwater Golf Course is a par 72 golf course, measuring 6,469 metres. Each hole features unique Australian bushland with natural water features and stunning rock formations.
